Marine Superintendent
Main Function
The Marine Superintendent ensures the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of company vessels by monitoring performance, conducting inspections, and enforcing international and local maritime regulations. The role supports vessel crews, oversees marine logistics and HSE compliance, coordinates with regulatory bodies and clients, and ensures all vessels meet operational, safety, and certification standards within the oil and gas marine environment.
Key Responsibilities
Ensure vessels comply with all relevant international, flag state, and company safety and environmental regulations (ISM, ISPS, MARPOL, SOLAS, MLC, etc.).
Conduct regular shipboard inspections and safety audits to verify compliance and performance standards.
Oversee navigation, cargo operations, and marine safety procedures onboard vessels.
Monitor and report on vessel performance, fuel efficiency, and voyage planning.
Investigate incidents, accidents, and near misses, ensuring corrective and preventive actions are implemented.
Provide technical advice and operational support to ship captains and crew.
Liaise with classification societies, port authorities, and regulatory bodies as required.
Develop and implement marine safety training and drills for onboard personnel.
Support the vetting, pre-charter inspections, and port state control (PSC) readiness.
Collaborate with technical, crewing, and HSEQ departments to ensure vessel readiness and operational excellence.
Qualifications and Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Marine Engineering, Nautical Science, or a related discipline.
Valid Certificate of Competency (COC) as Master Mariner or Chief Officer preferred.
Minimum of 5 years’ seagoing experience and 3 years in a shore-based marine management or superintendent role.
Strong knowledge of IMO conventions, flag state requirements, and marine safety management systems.
Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Proficiency in MS Office and marine management software.
